- Gray counting down to Brighton clash
- Pre-season ends with draw at Barnsley
- Owls offer contract to Dejan Kelhar
With the real thing just one week away, Stuart Gray is eagerly awaiting the start of the new campaign as the Owls bade farewell to pre-season with a 1-1 draw at Barnsley.
It was a largely tame affair at Oakwell, with a pacier second half going some way to atone for a low-key first, as Gray acknowledged.
He said: “The first half was like an end of season game, I don’t think there was hardly a tackle in sight.
“But it picked up in the second half and it was another good workout for the boys.
“The most pleasing thing for me is that we have come through the game without any injuries.”
Addressing the media after the pre-season encounter, Gray confirmed the Owls have made a contract offer to Slovenian trailist Dejan Kelhar.
He said: “I’ve been impressed with Dejan and we’ve offered him a short term contract. It’s in his hands now.
“He’s been with the group for a good few weeks, he’s fitted in well and he’s done well.
“We need competition all over the park.
“Everybody knows we want a striker in the building and we are waiting on one, and should have an answer on Monday or Tuesday morning.
“But we are in competition with a lot of other football clubs for the quality players that are available.”
