The Owls have been dealt a defensive blow with news that new recruit Dejan Kelhar will sit out most of the season with a knee injury.
The Slovenian centre half, who signed a short term contract with Wednesday in early August, has sustained a cruciate knee ligament injury and head coach Stuart Gray has spoken of both his sadness and frustration.
He said: “It’s a major blow for the lad and I’m so sad for him because he really impressed me during his trial over the summer.
“He’s seen the surgeon and he will have to go under the knife so it’s doubtful he will kick a ball this season.
“Dejan is devastated and the players are too because we are a tight-knit group.
“We all wish him all the best for a full and speedy recovery.”
