  • Stuart Gray to field strong side v Notts County
  • Head coach says Owls full of confidence
  • Gray to honour the tradition of the League Cup

Stuart Gray has said he will field a strong side this evening against Notts County as Wednesday begin their Capital One Cup campaign.

Gray’s aim is clear; to make sure the Owls are in the hat for the second round draw which takes place on Wednesday, following the live televised clash between Coventry and Cardiff on Sky Sports.

The Owls are favourites to progress as they come up against the League One Magpies but Gray expects a difficult challenge from Shaun Derry’s side.

“I always treat the cup games with the respect they deserve,” Gray said. “I will be fielding a strong team against Notts County.

“Winning breeds confidence and on the back of a fantastic win against Brighton, we want to keep the momentum going.

“We’re going into this game full of confidence.”

Having posted three points on the board at Brighton on day one, the head coach wants to ensure the early feelgood factor continues and added:

“I’ve got to have one eye on the fact that we may have seven games in 21 days when selecting the team but it will be a strong team I put out there.

“With every game that we play, I just want to win. This competition provides an opportunity for the players.

“As soon as you get knocked out of these competitions, it’s another season gone by before you can have another go.

“It’s a short career for the players and sometimes it’s not very nice when you’re watching the final or the later rounds at home thinking, we should have been there.”
