A must-win game

24 December 2014

  • Owls face Blackpool on Boxing Day
  • Stuart Gray says Wednesday must take maximum points
  • Two key games on the horizon

The Boxing Day clash with Blackpool is a ‘must-win game’.

That was head coach Stuart Gray’s message during the pre-match press conference at Middlewood Road.

The Owls host basement side Blackpool who were hit for six on home soil against Bournemouth last week.

After back to back defeats, Gray has said the emphasis now is for Wednesday to produce a response in front of the Hillsborough crowd.

“We know we have got to win it,” Gray said.

“Somebody told me on Saturday we will be facing a wounded animal in Blackpool. We are a wounded animal as well.

“It’s unusual for us to get beaten 4-0, we need to hit back from that. It’s a must win game for us.

“I expect to win every game we play at home, that should be our mindset.”

Wednesday were defeated 1-0 by Wolves last time out in S6 in what was a hugely frustrating afternoon.

At times, the Owls dominated the game and created plenty of chances and this time around, Gray wants to see a more ruthless Wednesday in front of goal.

“We played Wolves, played well, everyone could see that but we didn’t win and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.

We have created 34 chances in our last two games but I’m sitting here with no goals scored and that has to change.

“It’s all about winning on your own patch.

“This is a must-win game for us. We have to win this one and then go on and win against Wigan.”
