Tom Lees says Wednesday must be right from the start at The DW Stadium on Tuesday.
Wigan notched their first win in nine against the defender’s former club Leeds on Boxing Day.
For the Latics – who are three points from safety - that success was only their second win in 18 games.
While Lees believes it is only a matter of time before things click into place for Wigan, the stopper says Wednesday know what to expect from Malky Mackay’s side.
“It wasn’t that long ago that we played Wigan so we know a bit about them,” he said.
“They have experienced Premier League players and if they get it right, they can be a real force but we have to focus on what we’re good at.
“We need to put them under pressure at home in front of their own crowd and stop them playing the kind of football they want to play.”
Only last month Wednesday bagged three points at Hillsborough against the Latics with Stevie May on target twice in the 2-1 win.
The reverse fixture has come around fast and Lees is prepared for a stern test.
He added: “They have got some great players in their squad and I think it’s a matter of time before they fulfil their potential.
“If you look at the team on paper, you would probably put them up there as one of the strongest teams in the league.
“They are a team who you would say are probably underachieving with the squad that they have got.
“But they won on Boxing Day and we have to make sure we get a good start and stop them building any momentum they got from the last game.”
