Final piece of the jigsaw

23 December 2014

  • Wednesday out  to bounce back
  • Gray urges calm in front of goal
  • Owls host Blackpool on Boxing Day

Stuart Gray has called on his players to be brave and put into place what he tags ‘the final piece of the jigsaw’.

The Owls’ head coach is alluding to putting the ball in the back of the net, something that Gray has already described as the hardest part of the game.

He said: “We need more goals definitely. It’s the final piece of the jigsaw as far as I’m concerned.

“It’s not as if we haven’t been playing well but you have to turn possession and chances into goals and points.

“We need someone to be brave in the box and even get a few stitches for a goal.

“We’re making the chances but not converting them.”

Gray went on to outline key stats from Saturday’s defeat at Fulham, in which Wednesday saw plenty of the ball but emerged with nothing to show for their toils.

He added: “We had 18 attempts on goal at Fulham but only six on target.

“We just need that calmness, that bit of composure in front of goal.

“We work on crossing and shooting every day in training and now we need to take that from the training ground to the main pitch.”
