Maghoma fighting for first team recall

17 December 2014

  • Jacques Maghoma aiming for first team spot
  • Forward scored twice for Owls Development Squad in midweek
  • Royston Drenthe and Chris Maguire providing strong competition

Having stored 90 minutes under his belt and bagged two goals for the Owls Development Squad on Tuesday, Jacques Maghoma is fighting to earn back his first team place.

Chris Maguire and Royston Drenthe are providing strong competition in the Owls’ attack but Maghoma is hoping to play a part on Saturday.

Wednesday travel to Fulham this weekend and the forward has been boosted by his midweek display against Coventry.

He said: “It was nice to get two goals and get some minutes under my belt.

“It was a good exercise. I have not played for three weeks so I just wanted to keep my fitness up.

“It was good to get some goals for my confidence and hopefully I will be involved at Fulham on Saturday.

“The gaffer knows what I can do. I came out of the team and of late, they have been winning so it’s always hard to put me back in when they are doing well.”

Maghoma admitted his frustration at his recent lack of games and is determined to force his way back into contention, adding:

“It’s hard for a manager to change a team when players are in form and the team is getting results.

“I want the team to carry on doing well and hopefully I can get back into the side and show what I can do because it’s frustrating when you are not playing.

“But players have been doing well in my position. Chris Maguire and Royston Drenthe have got some assists and created a lot of chances.”
