Our biggest game

23 December 2014

‘Our biggest game’ is how Jose Semedo has described the Owls’ Boxing Day clash with Blackpool.

Wednesday play their final home fixture of 2014 against the Seasiders on Friday and after back to back defeats, Semedo says it’s vital the team respond.

The midfield general wants to sign off 2014 at Hillsborough in style and provide some festive cheer for the supporters.

“This is the most important game of the season so far for me,” Semedo said.

“Everybody will look at the game and expect us to win because they are on a bad run. For us, it’s the most important because it’s the next game.

“We lost our last two games but coming back to Hillsborough, we want to give some happiness to our crowd but it will be a difficult one.”

After a mini-revival in the Championship, basement side Blackpool were brought back down to earth with a 6-1 home defeat to high-flying Bournemouth.

The Tangerines are the still waiting for their first win away from home this season but Semedo is taking nothing for granted.

He added: “We know it won’t be easy because no games are in this league.

“It was painful to concede those goals last week at Fulham. Before we conceded we were playing well.

“It was unusual for us to concede the type of goals we did and that’s what hurt more than anything else.

“We know we can do better than that and that’s what we need to show against Blackpool.”
