Sheffield Wednesday honours Football Remembers Week

8 December 2014

Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers were joined by representatives from the Great War Society at Saturday’s match at Ewood Park to mark the start of ‘Football Remembers’ week, which takes place from today until Sunday 14 December.

Professional football is honouring the centenary of one of the most iconic moments of the First World War - the 1914 Christmas Truce football match - with a week of remembrance activity.

To mark their respect, both teams posed in a unique photo, named ‘A Moment in History’, and saw the two teams merge together.

The remembrance week is an outcome of a collaboration between the Premier League, The FA and the British Council, to engage football fans about the Christmas truce match that took place on Christmas Day 1914 in Flanders, Belgium.
