Points on the board

18 February 2014

Miguel Llera’s main objective over the next week is to add more points on the board as the Owls face Championship opposition in the form of Derby and Huddersfield.

First up this evening, Wednesday host in-form Derby who picked up an impressive 1-0 win over promotion rivals QPR last time out.

The Rams are well in the hunt for automatic promotion and have the chance to climb within two points of second-placed Burnley.

But the Spaniard has taken great confidence from the Owls’ form since the Christmas period and believes Wednesday can come out on top in this evening’s encounter.

He told swfc.co.uk: “The last two months have been magnificent for us.

“We’re now away from the relegation zone, but we need to keep that going and make that gap between us and the bottom even bigger.

“The most important thing for this club is playing in the Championship next season.”

“Our desire is to get points and if we can beat a side like Reading away like we did, then we know we can win this game.”

Following tonight’s meeting with the Rams, Wednesday then travel to Huddersfield on Saturday before facing Charlton on Monday for a place in the FA Cup quarter final.

Should the Owls overcome the Addicks, Wednesday will of course face Sheffield United in the next round but Llera is not thinking that far ahead as he explained:

“It’s wrong if we are thinking about the FA Cup yet. I understand everyone getting excited and, of course, we want to get there for the fans and the city. It will be good to get a derby in the FA Cup.

“If we want to arrive at that game, then we need to be playing well in the build-up.

“We’ve got important games to play before the Charlton match and the biggest one at the moment is Derby today.”
