Getting Betra!

8 January 2014

Lee Bullen has spoken highly of the progress of Owls youngster Franck Betra.

The striker, who turned 17 in December, has made huge strides at Hillsborough during 2013/14.

A regular for the Owls’ Under-21 squad and on the scoresheet, Betra stepped up his progress by earning a place in the matchday squad in last weekend’s FA Cup trip to Macclesfield.

Although the young Frenchman was an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw at Moss Rose, the call-up represents a significant step in the striker’s development.

“It’s great for Franck to have this kind of exposure to the first team,” Bullen said.

“Everything about the experience will benefit the young man; travelling down with the team the night before and taking in the atmosphere of such a game in front of a crowd.

“The experience was invaluable for Franck.”

The Development Squad head coach is hopeful the current crop of academy scholars and Under-21s can be inspired by Betra’s rise up the ranks and continued:

“Franck has worked hard and deserved his chance and hopefully the younger players at the club can look at that and take inspiration from it.

“He has to carry on working hard and use this experience as a springboard.”

The youngster has been given squad number 37.
