Owls head coach Stuart Gray was pleased to finalise a deal to bring Arsenal striker Benik Afobe on loan at Hillsborough.
The 20-year-old will remain with Wednesday until the end of the season and is available for Saturday’s South Yorkshire derby against Barnsley.
Speaking of his latest capture, Gray said: “I saw a lot of Benik while I was working for the FA with the England Under-21s.
“I went to see him play for Arsenal against Chelsea the day before we played Millwall in midweek and one thing I do know is that we have got a very hungry forward.”
Afobe becomes the second player from the Gunner’s academy to join the club this term, with goalkeeper Damian Martinez also on loan with the Owls until the end of the term.
Gray continued: “He likes to run in behind, he stretches the game and is technically very, very good and we are very grateful to Arsenal for allowing us to bring him to Sheffield Wednesday.
“He is a quality player who is only going to get better.
“You look at his pedigree, he’s come from Arsenal who do things the right way but the boy has got pace and he is a strong centre forward.
“Benik is a player who has been on my radar for a while and after having the opportunity to see him again the other night, we pushed it through to get him here and we’re really pleased.”
