In the hat

4 January 2014

While disappointed with the outcome of the game, Stuart Gray is pleased nonetheless to be in the hat for round four of the FA Cup.

The Owls and Macclesfield must lock horns again following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Moss Rose after Steve Williams’ second half strike cancelled out Reda Johnson’s opener before the break.

While Wednesday bossed the first half, the home side followed suit in the second 45 to earn a second bite of the cherry.

Gray said: “I was pleased with the way that we played in the first half. We started very well, bossed the game and got our noses in front.

“The disappointing thing is that we didn’t build on that and in the last ten minutes we could have lost the game.

“We gave away too many free kicks, we didn’t pass the ball as well and credit to Macclesfield because they fought their way back into the game.

“But this is the FA Cup and the most important thing is that we are in the hat for the next round.

“The lads are disappointed in the dressing room because having scored the first goal, we should have won the game.

“Their crowd was up for it when they scored and suddenly our keeper was busier than theirs.

“But as I say, the important thing was that we came to a difficult ground and didn’t get beaten.”

* The replay will take place next Tuesday, 14 January, at Hillsborough (7.45pm).
