Looking up

11 January 2014

Stuart Gray is looking onwards and upwards following the 6-0 rout of Yorkshire rivals Leeds at Hillsborough.

The Owls turned in a thoroughly dominant display all over the park to brush the Whites aside in the most emphatic manner in the Sky Bet Championship early kick-off.

And Gray said the players got exactly what they deserved having bossed the game from start to finish:

“I’m a big believer in looking upwards and I’m going to enjoy this moment because moments like these are why you are in football.

“We were outstanding in every position and in all honesty, I don’t think you could pick a man of the match because there were so many candidates.

“And they got what was due to them because they have worked so hard. We may have got lucky on a couple of goals with a deflection and a post but I believe the harder you work, the luckier you get.”

Gray was also delighted for the Hillsborough hordes, who have shown patience of the highest order for much of the campaign so far.

He added: “I couldn’t be happier for the fans and today I thought they were magnificent.

“I have said to the players that sometimes you need to inspire the crowd and that can as simple as winning a 50-50 challenge, chasing down your opponent or having a shot.

“We did all that and more today and everyone has their reward.”
