Terriers hit back at Hillsborough

20 January 2014

Sheffield Wednesday Under-21s were comfortably defeated 4-1 by Huddersfield at Hillsborough on Monday afternoon.

After an even opening to the game, Paul Corry gave Wednesday the lead five minutes before the interval, stabbing home from close range from Ayo Obileye’s centre.

Terriers striker Harry Bunn levelled just before the break, sweeping home into the top corner from a low cross into the danger zone.

Chris Atkinson then saw his strike ruled out for offside on the hour but Duane Holmes registered Huddersfield’s second goal of the afternoon ten minutes later, springing the offside trap and tapping home past Adam Davies.

Davies then denied Cristian Lopez and Bunn within the space of a minute before Town were awarded a penalty 12 minutes from time for Kayode Bola’s challenge on Lopez – as Jordan Sinnott fired home from the spot.

Huddersfield applied late pressure and grabbed a fourth seven minutes from time.

Owls goalkeeper Davies made a good stop from a Lopez volley but Atkinson thumped home seconds later to put the game to bed.

Wednesday rallied in the late stages as Rhys McCabe saw his strike well saved by Ian Bennett after neat skill in the area and Khallil Lambin hit the crossbar after excellent work from Jack Stobbs down the right.
