  • Michail Antonio pleased with pre-season goals
  • Winger feels Newcastle United test will benefit Owls
  • Squad looking forward to Hillsborough return

Having scored two goals in as many pre-season games, Michail Antonio says it is important to get the feel for hitting the back of the net before the new term kicks off.

The former Reading man struck on Sunday at Doncaster, adding to his earlier strike against FC Arsenal Tula during the Owls’ Slovenia training camp.

With goals being a big part of the forward’s game, Antonio is happy with his pre-season progress and strike rate so far.

He told swfc.co.uk: “I’ve scored two goals and I’m pleased with that.

“A goal is a goal, even in friendly games you still get that buzz when the ball hits the net. It’s important to get a run like that at this stage and get a feel for scoring goals.

“They don’t add points to your league tally right now but of course you want to score them and go into that first game of the season full of confidence.”

Wednesday continue their pre-season programme this evening with Newcastle United providing the opposition.

Antonio views the friendly as a good test for the squad and added:

“This will be another good game for us and different to the other ones we’ve played.

“Back at Hillsborough in front of our biggest crowd in pre-season and against Premier League players.

“It’s a good chance for us to build up our match fitness. The boys are already looking sharp, I’m feeling fit and sharp and looking forward to getting started this season.”
