The Owls reported back to Middlewood Road on Tuesday and Stuart Gray wasted little time in putting the players through their paces.
The first day of pre-season met with two sessions between a light lunch and set the tone for what the head coach insists will be a demanding summer schedule.
He told swfc.co.uk: “We have schedules in place for the whole of pre-season, with everything geared towards that first game against Brighton on 9 August.
“We gave the players running drills this morning and got the balls out this afternoon and it’s been a good start.
“They all came back in good shape following the break and that’s a big positive.
“All the players had individual programmes and it was important they stuck to them and did the right things.”
The sun was shining at Middlewood Road – with temperatures around the mid-70s - which punctuated the players’ efforts as they completed the running drills first thing.
And that hard work is the key during the whole of pre-season said Gray, who added:
“You have to put the work in, it’s as simple as that. There are no hiding places.
“We have a long season ahead and the players must have that base of fitness.
“We’ve worked them hard today and that will continue right the way through this six-week period.”
