  • Versatile Owl aims for strong campaign
  • Kieran Lee prefers midfield slot
  • Ex-Oldham star enjoying pre-season

Kieran Lee is looking forward to getting a strong pre-season under the belt before powering on into 2014/15.

The 26-year-old saw his personal campaign interrupted by injury last time out. But Lee battled back to post a strong finish which he hopes to take into the new term.

He said: “I am enjoying it. Pre-season has been tough. We’ve done double training sessions most days, with a lot of running in the mornings and the balls have come out in the afternoons. There’s been a lot of fitness work as you would expect.

“It’s vital, though, that you get that level of fitness to take from pre-season.

“It is hard work, yes, but the rewards are there for everyone to see once the real season starts.”

Lee has proved his worth in numerous positions during his two years with Wednesday to date, featuring at right back, in right midfield and the centre.

And he has no qualms over his favoured slot, saying:

“I enjoy the role in central midfield. It’s where I prefer to play so hopefully that will be my position.

“The main thing with central midfield is you are always involved and on the ball. You always have to stay switched on.

“But I don’t mind where I play and we all know what football is like. There could be an injury in another position so we will see what happens. I’m quite happy to play anywhere as long as I’m in the team.”
