Sheffield Wednesday have signed international goalkeeper Keiren Westwood on a free transfer.
The experienced custodian has put pen to paper on a two-year Hillsborough contract.
Westwood has clocked almost 300 senior appearances during his career so far, playing in the Premiership domestically and the Republic of Ireland on the international stage.
The 29-year-old began his career as a youngster with Manchester City, where he learned the ropes behind England number one David James and former Owls star Nicky Weaver.
Ready for first team action, Westwood moved to Carlisle United and broke into the seniors to help the Cumbrians to the League Two title in 2006, making 35 appearances.
The Manchester product continued to excel and at the end of the 2007/08 campaign was voted into the PFA League One Team of the Year before sweeping the board at Carlisle’s Player of the Year awards.
Coventry City swooped for Westwood in the summer of 2008 and the keeper made a similar impression in the Midlands, going on to earn inclusion in the 2008/09 PFA Championship Team of the Year.
He then lifted the Sky Blues’ Player of the Year title the following campaign.
In June 2011, Westwood moved to Premier League Sunderland and proved an extremely capable deputy for now Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
Westwood made 19 appearances for the Black Cats, giving a final figure of 281 – plus 16 for the Republic of Ireland - ahead of his S6 arrival.
