Start of a hard year

4 July 2014

The new intake of academy youngsters reported for duty at Middlewood Road this week and were soon put through their paces by the conditioning and coaching staff.

First up was the key element of fitness work, comprising bleep and yo-yo tests together with functional movement screening.

Physical conditioning continued through structured running assignments before the technical work began with small-sided games in the academy dome.

And away from the fitness and the football, an important year beckons for the boys.

The Wednesday academy prides itself on education pathways and inductions await as the first year scholars prepare for the start of the BTEC Diploma in Sport course.

Academy manager Dean Ramsdale said: “This is a crucial time for the boys because the hard work starts here.

“Their education is just as important as their football at this early stage and they must put the graft in on and off the pitch.

“They will be closely monitored by our staff every step of the way and offered every support.”
