Stuart Gray looking forward

19 July 2014

  • Head coach happy with Bury success
  • Owls flew to Slovenia on Saturday
  • Gray's side play FC Arsenal Tula on Wednesday

After the Owls emerged triumphant from The AJ Bell Stadium on Friday night, Stuart Gray was keen to keep looking forward through the summer schedule.

Wednesday beat Bury 3-1, building nicely on the 2-0 success at York last Saturday, with goals from Jacques Maghoma, Atdhe Nuhiu and Giles Coke.

And Gray says there is plenty more to come as pre-season unfolds:

“It’s all about fitness at this stage and the players’ avoiding injuries.

“Performance-wise, we were OK, we did some things well and some things better.

“I’m happy to come away with another win because it never hurts to have that winning feeling in the camp.

“But pre-season is all about building towards that first game of the season and our preparations will get harder as the days and weeks go by.”

The Owls flew to Slovenia on Saturday and take on newly-promoted Russian side FC Arsenal Tula in Maribor this week.

Gray added: “It’s good to get away with the players, it breaks up the schedule and the warm weather training can only be beneficial.

“We have five days in Slovenia –during which we play a European side full of confidence - followed by tough games against Newcastle, Doncaster and Barnsley.

“But the one that really matters is the Brighton game in the Championship on 9 August and that is what we are all looking to.”
