Sheffield Wednesday have linked up with the University of South Wales to host a new Foundation Degree course in Community Football Coaching and Development.
In association with the Football League Trust, the university has developed a unique online distance learning syllabus for individuals wanting to work in the football industry.
The SWFC Community Programme will deliver the two-year course which combines academic and vocational learning in a professional football club environment.
The curriculum is designed specifically to enhance the career prospects of new students, those already in employment or current professional players.
It also gives students a direct entry path into further education, with the opportunity to enter university once completed.
Spencer Taylor, CSR Development Manager at Sheffield Wednesday, said: “This partnership is testament to how the Community Programme continues to expand its offering to young people in the region.
“The Foundation Degree provides those with a real passion for football the opportunity to gain hands on, practical experience and a recognised professional qualification.”
Students will receive online lectures while based at Hillsborough, along with work-based learning opportunities within the club.
UEFA qualifications are embedded in course content which also covers principles of coaching, community sport development, coaching licenses and sport in practice.
Course Mentor Ricky Hunt added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people who harbour ambitions of working in football and are serious about a career in coaching.
"We are delighted to forge strong links with the University of South Wales and the Football League Trust through this dynamic and exciting education programme and thank them both for their support.”
The first intake of students will begin studying the new Community Football Coaching and Development Foundation Degree Course in September.
