No letting up

28 March 2014

With Wednesday in excellent form on home soil, Joe Mattock has said that confidence is high throughout the dressing room.

The Owls head into Saturday’s mid-table clash with Watford on the back of four straight home wins and Mattock is revelling in this current purple patch.

Having brushed aside Birmingham and QPR, Wednesday have also picked up maximum points against Middlesbrough and Brighton in March.

But the defender insists it's important Wednesday keep up this winning run at Hillsborough with the finishing line in sight.

Mattock said: “We’re playing really well and really positively at the moment, we’re having a lot of attempts at goal and creating a lot of chances but we have to keep that up.

“We’ve really kicked on and dug deep and sometimes that’s what you have to do and results are going our way.

“We’re playing well and we have to make sure that continues.”

Victory over the Hornets on Saturday would signal the Owls' best winning run at Hillsborough since the 2011/12 promotion campaign.

An added incentive for a fifth straight victory is that Wednesday would leapfrog this weekend’s opponents and venture into the top half of the table for the first time this season.

Mattock added: “There is quite a big gap between us and the relegation zone now and we are all looking up.

“We need to focus on playing well and our next target is to make sure we are mathematically safe.

He continued: “I’ve had a run of games and it’s good to be back playing. I’ve said to friends and family I want to see the rest of the season out playing all the games.

“Having good competition has worked for me. Jeremy Helan has been terrific and has played really well. He’s got some excellent left back attributes and that pushes me on.

“I enjoy it here, it’s been tough but I really enjoy playing here. It’s been eventful this season, we had a bad start but now we are playing really well.”
