The Owls’ Under-21s suffered a 4-0 reverse to local rivals Sheffield United at Shirecliffe on Monday afternoon.
Teenagers Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Otis Khan netted two goals each as the hosts took the honours.
United were three goals to the good after 22 minutes and the Owls could not launch a suitable recovery.
The Blades added a fourth after the break to cap a bleak afternoon for Wednesday.
