Wimbledon champion announces support for Owls tennis

The 2012 Wimbledon Doubles Champion Jonny Marray has announced his support to become the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme ambassador for the delivery of tennis in the Sheffield area.

Murray’s backing comes at the same time the club’s community programme are set to deliver free tennis sessions every Friday from 23 May, between 5.00pm and 7.00pm.

Jonny, who trained at the Hallamshire Tennis Club in Sheffield and has also become an ambassador for ‘Premier League 4 Sport’ – a national programme that helps young people get involved in sport in the local community - is now supporting the Sheffield Wednesday Community tennis programme and is encouraging people to take advantage of the sessions on offer.

The workshops, which will be held at Hillsborough Park, are aimed at people of all abilities and ages and will let participants develop their tennis skills and learn from specialist coaches, all free of charge.

As well as the weekly sessions, the SWFC Community Programme, the club’s charity arm, have teamed up with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and the Great British Tennis Weekend to deliver free tennis sessions for all the family.

Coaching sessions, which are appropriate for all, will be delivered across Sheffield throughout May with one of the Great British Tennis Weekend sessions being delivered at Hillsborough Park on Saturday 17 May between 11.00am and 2.00pm.
