Better with the ball

1 November 2014

  • Owls draw 1-1 at Charlton on Saturday
  • Royston Drenthe on target for Wednesday
  • But Charlton hit back to salvage point

Stuart Gray said the Owls gave away two points at Charlton as a result of profligacy in possession.

After bossing the first half and scoring through Royston Drenthe, the Addicks hauled level when substitute Igor Vitokele struck after the break.

Gray said: “We have the ball away far too much in possession and we have to be better with the ball.

“Charlton have a very good home record but we wanted to exploit one or two things and did so only to let that down by giving the ball away.

“Would I have taken a point before the game? No, because we wanted all three and after dominating the first half we should have got them.

“As far as I’m concerned, that’s two points thrown away and that is what I have told the players in the dressing room.”
