Caolan Lavery boosted by Development Squad double

26 November 2014

Following Caolan Lavery’s double for the Under-21s on Tuesday, the striker has a hunger for more goals.

A delighted Lavery was boosted by his appearance for the Development Squad and after bagging a welcomed brace, the 22-year-old said it’s the best he has felt since his return.

“Being a striker that’s all you want to do, score goals,” he said. “While I was out, I was just looking forward to being back and scoring goals again.

“Today is the best I have felt since I’ve been back and to get a few goals was brilliant.

“It’s what I’m here to do and now I’m just looking forward to the future.”

Lavery’s frustrations on the sidelines have been well documented but the striker’s recent appearances for the Under-21s and goals against Chesterfield have given the forward a huge lift.

“The more games I play, the fitter I will get,” he continued. “I’ve had a few weeks in training now, played a couple of games and if the gaffer said, ‘I want you to play’, then I’d like to think I could go out there and do a good job for the team.

“When you’re injured, you just want to train with the lads and join in each day with the banter but when you’re out, you’re away from all that focusing on your recovery and it’s mentally tough.”
