Delighted with Drenthe wonder goal

  • Royston Drenthe on target for Wednesday
  • Addicks stunner for ex-Real Madrid man
  • Stuart Gray hails solo strike

Stuart Gray has spoken of his delight with Royston Drenthe having scored his first goal for the Owls – and what a goal it was!

The former Real Madrid winger delivered a stunning solo strike on Saturday at Charlton to leave Gray and the travelling hordes purring.

And the Wednesday head coach said the strike typifies the ability of the dazzling wideman:

“Royston has that in his locker and I was delighted for him when that shot hit the back of the net.

“I see what the boy does in training so what he did at Charlton came as no surprise to me.

“In the first half he was just unplayable.”

Gray acceded to that fact that Drenthe tired after the break but emphasised the value of every minute on the pitch for the Reading man.

He added: “He tired in the second half but that is going to happen because he is getting fit in games.

“But the more time he has on the field will help him in leaps and bounds.

“He came to us without having any kind of game-time to his name this season so he and we have to manage that situation.

“There is no doubting the talent he has and that ability to go one on one because he frightens defenders.

“That first half performance and goal will have done him the world of good.”
