First team chance leaves Young wanting more

5 November 2014

Owls defender Matt Young has told swfc.co.uk he was buzzing to be involved in the squad for Tuesday’s Championship fixture with Bournemouth.

The right back has been edging closer to the first team with impressive performances for the Under-21s and was included on the bench in midweek.

Young signed from Southampton in the summer and has seen an improvement in his own game and now wants to keep on track and push for further inclusions in Stuart Gray’s first team set-up.

He said: “I’m really enjoying it. Things have been going reasonably well.

“At the start of the season I was around the first team and made a few appearances in pre-season which I enjoyed.

“Then I started the season playing for the 21s, we got a few good results and are doing well in the league but obviously there is room for improvement.

“Against Bournemouth I was on the bench and it was just a little taster but I was buzzing.

“I always want to improve and do more than what I am doing but it was obviously a big thing for me.

“I’m not going to say that I have cracked it because I’m not there yet.

“It’s good that the gaffer has faith in me to put me on the bench and if I’m called upon I will be ready. It’s a real confidence booster for me.”
