Owls striker Gary Madine helped Coventry City return to winning ways on Wednesday evening.

Madine – currently on loan with the Sky Blues – scored his first goal for the club in their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy win over Plymouth at The Ricoh.

The 24-year-old’s powerful header from Jim O’Brien’s corner sent City on their way to victory and into JPT area semi final.

The Sky Blues were in need of a response following their shock FA Cup exit at the hands of Conference North side Worcester City.

Madine said: “Tonight was a good win.

“We worked hard for each other, and there are a great set of boys at this football club.

"But we don't believe for a second that this one result puts everything right.

“The manager after the game was right when he said that we weren't good enough and he expects more from us.

"It is great to be in the semi-finals though, but now we need to go back to the league and win, because that is our bread and butter."

Madine is in line to feature for Coventry on Saturday against Notts County, as attention turns back to League 1 action.
