- Ross Barkley gives credit to Wednesday
- England star enjoyed Hillsborough loan
- Midfielder in Three Lions' squad this weekend
England starlet Ross Barkley has credited loan spells with the Owls and local rivals Leeds as being key to his football development.
Barkley, part of the Three Lions’ squad that faces Slovenia on Saturday, enjoyed temporary stints in Yorkshire last season prior to earning his maiden senior cap.
And the talented midfielder says the experience gained at both Championship clubs helped lay the foundations for future success:
“I went out on loan from being a kid to going into a man’s game.
“When I came back, things started to change as I was getting on the pitch more.
“It’s more serious, more professional, playing with better players, playing against better players.
“When I was younger I was getting the ball and able to take all the players on as I was bigger and stronger but in the Premier League you cannot do that.”
