Storyline: Sheffield Wednesday v Bournemouth

Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Bournemouth

Sky Bet Championship

PRE-MATCH
Stuart Gray: “Bournemouth are a good footballing side. They move the ball very quickly. But I am more concerned with what my players do. They’ve got to show the enthusiasm, desire and hunger to close people down and hurt players in one on one situations. That can lift the crowd.

Eddie Howe: “This is going to be a really tough double-header. A midweek fixture under the lights at Hillsborough is a tough assignment. I think Stuart Gray has done really well with them this season.

“It was great to continue the good away form at Birmingham after winning with ten men at Bolton. We move forward to Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough. They will be two totally different games but two equally as tough ones.”

MEDIA CALL
Jeremy Helan spoke to the media ahead of the Cherries’ clash and discussed his frustrations at the Owls’ current run of form on home soil.

The Frenchman said: “We’ve played some good teams at home and sometimes they’ve been battles.

“Like the gaffer says, we need to be better on our patch. We all know that and Bournemouth will be a good game against a good team.”

TALKING POINT
Royston Drenthe was sent off after receiving two yellow cards and here are those moments.

MANAGERS’ VERDICT
Stuart Gray: “The most disappointing thing is the way we reacted to losing a man. Royston getting sent off didn’t do us any favours but we just didn’t react.

“When you have a man sent off, rightly or wrongly, you have to roll up your sleeves and battle. But we didn’t do that, we acted as if we were beaten and you can’t do that against any side, never mind a side as good as Bournemouth.

Eddie Howe: “We always look for little things we can do to gain an advantage. We put a man in front of their goalkeeper because we know he has great distribution and can find Nuhiu up front.

“It’s a great feeling to be top. The players have worked ever so hard to get themselves into this position. To win back-to-back games in this league is hard enough, to win the amount we have and to show the character we have is a real plus point.”
