'That was for the fans'

29 November 2014

With the Owls posting their first victory since September, Stuart Gray has dedicated the Wigan success to the supporters.

Wednesdayites stayed squarely behind the head coach and team during the recent run that extended to ten games without a win.

Gray always insisted the tide would turn and was proved right on Saturday at Hillsborough.

He said: “That was for the fans. They have been magnificent and we are all extremely grateful for their support.

“You can’t fool the supporters that is for sure. The players have to tick all the boxes in terms of application and work rate and they did that today.

“We defender from the front and I lost count of the incidents when we chased down lost causes.

“That’s what the supporters expect and rightly so.

“I always say to the players, if we are going to lose a football match, we do it on ability and never application.”
