Yesterdays: Neil Mellor’s hat-trick of headers

20 November 2014

Four years ago today, Wednesday travelled south to face MK Dons in a League 1 clash and former Owls striker Neil Mellor stole the show.

Having gone behind to an early Mark Carrington goal, the ex-Liverpool ace ensured the visitors would take all the points.

Mellor equalised on 22 minutes, after planting the first of his three headers past David Martin from Chris Sedgwick’s centre.

A Luke Chadwick own goal gave Wednesday the advantage and after the break, Mellor sealed the win with 20 minutes left on the clock.

Gary Teale delivered from the left for Mellor to nod home from six yards and the treble was completed nine minutes from time, as the striker guided home from Tommy Spurr’s corner.
