Time certainly flies in football – underlined by the fact that a full two years have passed since Wednesdayites came together to celebrate ‘Semedo Day’.
Thousands of Owls fans paid tribute to the tough-tackling Portugese by donning Semedo masks, international shirts and flags, before endless tones of ‘You’ll never get past Semedo’ rang around The City Ground as Wednesday faced Nottingham Forest in the Championship.
Following a narrow 1-0 defeat in the Midlands, swfc.co.uk spoke to a genuinely touched Semedo, who said:
“It was so emotional for me to see all the fans.
"I had to have a deep breath when I came out onto the pitch and carry on.
“I can’t explain how much the supporters mean to me.
“This is my club and always will be.”
