Fighting for places

17 October 2014

Head coach Stuart Gray was able to report positive news regarding injuries during the Owls’ pre-match press conference on Thursday at Middlewood Road.

During the international break, former Chelsea man Sam Hutchinson returned to training after a back injury and is in contention to feature against Watford.

Kamil Zayatte (hamstring) and long term absentee Caolan Lavery (knee) will miss Saturday’s clash with Watford, while Chris Maguire will serve his one-match ban after accumulating five yellow cards.

Gray said: “The pleasing thing is we had 21 players out there training today.

“They are fighting and scrapping for places and that’s what we want to see.”

Meanwhile this weekend’s visitors Watford have concerns over their club captain and goal threat Troy Deeney.

The prolific striker injured his hamstring in the Hornets’ trip to Blackpool last month and will be assessed ahead of tomorrow’s game.

Watford have been boosted by the return to fitness of Fernando Forestieri after an eye injury.

Keith Andrews and Craig Cathcart (both calf) are unlikely to be fit in time for the trip to Hillsborough.

Gabriele Angella will miss out with an ankle injury and Ikechi Anya will be monitored after picking up a calf injury while on international duty for Scotland.
