Five-star Owls cruise to victory

13 October 2014

  • Owls Under-21s defeat Colchester 5-0
  • Franck Betra breaks deadlock before the interval
  • Ryan Meadows (2), Will De Havilland and Matt Penney add goals after the break

The Owls Development Squad proved too strong for Colchester on Monday evening at The Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Lee Bullen’s squad cruised to an emphatic 5-0 victory on an impressive night for the Owls.

Franck Betra opened the scoring midway through the first half but the hosts responded well and almost levelled before the break, as Drey Wright clipped the woodwork on the stroke of half time.

Colchester were made to pay for not taking their chances as Wednesday ran riot after the break.

Ryan Meadows rounded James Bransgrove to slot home three minutes after the restart and Will De Havilland’s sweet volley made it 3-0 after the hour mark.

With the points wrapped up, Wednesday were not finished on the goals front and Meadows made 4-0 on 81 minutes and Matt Penney rounded off a terrific night for Wednesday adding a fifth in the final minute.
