Goals from all areas

3 October 2014

While Wednesday take great pride in boasting the joint-best defensive record in the division, head coach Stuart Gray has stressed the need for more proficiency at the other end of the field – and from all around the team.

The Owls head into Saturday’s visit to Leeds having conceded just seven goals in the league.

But conversely, only ten strikes have breached the opposition defence and Gray acknowledges the need for improvement.

He told swfc.co.uk: “It’s credit to the defenders for that level of performance because we have the right foundations in place.

“We are well organised, the players are doing their jobs and they are getting the rewards.

“But at the other end, I would like to see more goals, of course. And that’s from all areas of the field, not just the attack.

“I want to see the defenders chip in and the midfielders as well.

“We can’t just rely on the strikers because we have the ability to get goals from everywhere around the pitch.”
