International round-up

7 October 2014

With the next batch of international fixtures just around the corner, swfc.co.uk takes a look at the Owls stars who are representing their country over the next two weeks.

Stevie May

The Scottish striker has received his first senior call-up and will be in Gordon Strachan’s squad that will face Georgia and Poland in their Euro 2016 qualifiers.

First up is a clash at Glasgow Rangers’ Ibrox stadium against Georgia on 11 October, followed by a trip to Warsaw to face Poland the following Tuesday.

May has represented Scotland at Under-21 level on eight occasions and is in line to earn his first senior cap.

Keiren Westwood

The in-form shot-stopper has been confirmed in the final Republic of Ireland squad for their two upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers.

The Irish host Gibraltar on 11 October in Dublin before travelling to Germany three days later to take on the reigning world champions.

The 29-year-old has been in excellent form since joining Wednesday in the summer and was recently crowned as the swfc.co.uk September Player of the Month.

Joe Wildsmith

Promising goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith has too earned recognition on the international stage.

The Owls academy product has been called into the England Under-20 squad for a prestigious tournament in the Netherlands.

The 18-year-old will be part of the Three Lions’ contingent to face Germany, Holland and Turkey later this month.

England begin the tournament with a clash against Germany on 9 October in Skoatterwald, followed by games against host nation Holland on 11 October, again in Skoatterwald, and finally Turkey on 13 October in De Bosk.

Kamil Zayatte

Guinea captain Kamil Zayatte was set to feature at the qualification stage of the Africa Cup of Nations. Guinea twice face Ghana on 11 and 15 October.

The defender, though, is unavailable having pulled up with a hamstring injury during Wednesday’s Championship clash with Ipswich.
