Having missed out on Saturday through suspension, Joe Mattock is back in contention for the trip to The Valley next weekend.

After accumulating five yellow cards, the left back missed his first game of the season as Wednesday drew 0-0 with Norwich.

“I was disappointed to miss the game on Saturday,” Mattock said.

“I think with the quality Norwich have, it was one of our biggest tests this season and would have been one of my biggest tests.

“But I thought the lads did really well but now obviously I want to get my place back in the team."

The Owls have kept nine clean sheets so far this season and have the meanest defensive record away from home.

Mattock believes that is something the Owls can be proud of as preparations begin today for the weekend trip to Charlton.

He added: “Defensively, we’re pleased with what we are doing at the moment, we’re not giving much away, we are keeping it tight in games and we need to continue that.

“The goals will come and once they do, we’ll be right up there.

“Charlton will be tough and I’ve said already this season, this division is getting stronger and stronger.

“They were down at the bottom of the league last season but have started really well so it will be difficult.

“But away from home, we have turned it on at times this season and that’s what we want to do on Saturday.”
