Wednesday and Leeds shared the spoils in the Yorkshire derby on Saturday at Elland Road.
There was plenty of incident and chances at both ends in the televised Championship clash, which finished 1-1.
Chris Maguire fired the Owls into the lead after the interval but the Whites clawed their way back into the contest and equalised late through Giuseppe Bellusci.
Both sides showed intent to steal an early march inside the first ten minutes as Alex Mowatt flashed a free kick wide and Atdhe Nuhiu planted a header over the bar from a teasing Maguire cross.
Leeds, though, were first to carve a clear cut chance as Tommaso Bianchi fed for Mowatt but Keiren Westwood was sharp off as line to narrow the angle and make the stop.
Souleymane Doukara then placed his slide rule finish just wide of the target and Rodolph Austin brought another smart save from Westwood as Leeds looked the more likely.
The hosts were edging ever closer to breaking the deadlock and had the ball in the net on the stroke of half time.
Mirco Antenucci slotted under Westwood but was flagged offside before Stevie May’s glancing header at the opposite end drifted agonisingly wide.
Immediately after the restart, Leeds almost profited from a mix-up at the back.
Glenn Loovens’ back pass was too short for Westwood and Antenucci lifted over the advancing goalkeeper but Liam Palmer was well-placed to head clear.
Antenucci was the visitors’ biggest threat and the Italian was denied once again by Westwood, who made a terrific one-on-one stop with his feet before the Owls broke with devastating effect.
Jacques Maghoma led the charge and whipped in a dangerous centre for Maguire to bury first time into the bottom the corner.
Gary Madine made an impact on his arrival in the second half and teed up May in the middle but the Scot dragged wide as Wednesday threatened to extend their lead.
But with ten minutes left on the clock Leeds found a leveller.
The ball fell kindly to Bellusci in the area from a free kick and the defender dispatched his strike neatly into the corner.
Inside the five minutes of added time, Madine saw his low strike saved by Marco Silvestri and that was the last of the chances in an entertaining clash in West Yorkshire.
