Striking the balance

31 October 2014

Steven Haslam has praised the positive start to the season made by the Under-18s.

Ahead of last weekend’s postponed fixture against Sheffield United, the Owls posted an excellent run of form that took in six games unbeaten.

And the academy lads are out to extend that pedigree when their season resumes against Huddersfield on Saturday morning at Middlewood Road.

Haslam told swfc.co.uk: “Since the start of the season the lads have been playing superbly and we've become a really tough team to play against.

"Individually I’m satisfied with how each of the players have improved.

“A lot of the lads have been playing for the Under-21 team too which obviously counts as great experience for them."

With a raft of clean sheets under the belt, goals have been scant at the other end of the field and Haslam is keen to strike the right balance.

He added: "We're always wanting more, and in terms of how we're playing, getting the ball further up the pitch is what we're aiming to do, whilst also keeping ourselves solid defensively.

“It's all about the balance."
