  • Stuart Gray looks forward to Yorkshire derby
  • Owls face Leeds live on Sky Sports
  • Head coach wants winning run

The Owls face Yorkshire rivals Leeds United live on Sky Sports on Saturday lunchtime (12.15pm) and Stuart Gray has said his players are relishing the derby.

The fixture has not been short of talking points and goals in recent years.

Wednesday emphatically claimed the bragging rights last time out with a 6-0 win at Hillsborough and Gray wants to ensure it’s Wednesdayites celebrating victory at the final whistle.

He said: “We’ve had the bragging rights from this fixture since the 6-0 win so we have to make sure they stay with us come three o’clock.

“These games don’t come around too often. Leeds United v Sheffield Wednesday is a special game.

“The players train here every day and I ask them to train at match intensity. They look forward to these type of games, the stage is set and they want to show their qualities.

“But the most important thing is the team.”

Having put a halt to successive defeats in midweek against Ipswich, Gray wants that winning feeling to return at the weekend and said:

“We need to have everybody at full throttle.

“The last time we played Leeds, we had everybody at eights and nines out of ten that day, scored six goals and kept a clean sheet.

“But their team has changed dramatically so I don’t think their manager will be saying ‘remember last season’.

“We need to go there and pick up a result to get our winning run going again.”
