Westwood in Ireland contention

10 October 2014

  • Keiren Westwood on international duty
  • Ireland face Gibraltar and Germany
  • Wednesday keeper in excellent form

The Owls are out of action this weekend but Keiren Westwood will be hoping to maximise the international break.

The in-form goalkeeper is in the Republic of Ireland squad for their Euro 2016 double-header against firstly Gibraltar and then Germany.

And 16-cap Westwood is breathing down the neck of current number one David Forde.

Westwood said: “It’s good to be back in the squad and pushing for a place again.

“Now I’ve got to keep pushing myself and aim to stay in that squad.

“I have to show what I’ve got and playing well for Wednesday is the best way to do that.”

Ireland host Gibraltar on Saturday before a daunting trip to reigning world champions Germany on Tuesday.
