17 September 2014

  • Bramall Lane clash ends 1-1
  • Ed Sanders scores for Wednesday

The Owls emerged with a hard-fought point from the league contest with local rivals Sheffield United on Wednesday night.

The game at Bramall Lane finished all square at 1-1, although Wednesday could have edged the derby clash following a spirited second half display.

Connor Dimaio opened the scoring for the Blades, who were pegged back in the second half by Ed Sanders.

The Owls started well and the in-form Franck Betra fired wide from the edge of the penalty area.

United responded with Joe Wildsmith saving superbly from Stefan Scougall midway through the first half.

And the hosts went one better on 35 minutes when Dimaio curled a long ranger into the top corner to give United the lead at the break.

Wednesday rallied for the second period and equalised on 50 minutes when Sanders climbed the highest to convert from a corner.

Betra and Manny Dieseruvwe then went close before Paul Corry came within a whisker of giving Wednesday the points near the end only for ex-Owls loanee keeper Iain Turner to save at the last.

Owls: Wildsmith, Young, Floro, Beatson, De Haviland, Corry, Croasdale, Margairaz (Meadows 46), Dieseruvwe, McCabe (Sanders 46), Betra
