The victory saw Wednesday’s unbeaten run stretch to 11 in all competitions.
Alex Pearce saw red for a challenge on Benik Afobe in the area and Chris Maguire calmly converted from the spot.
The game was settled on 58 minutes when Afobe lifted the ball over Alex McCarthy.
