Sheffield Wednesday Football Club today celebrates its 147th birthday!
On this day in 1867 at the Adelphi Hotel – where the Crucible Theatre now stands – a meeting was held to officially form a football section of the Sheffield Wednesday Cricket Club.
Ben Chatterton was elected as president, John Marsh as secretary and team captain.
On the same day, the famous colours of blue and white were adopted!
Around sixty members were enrolled on the night, including many of the finest players in Sheffield.
Thank you all for your incredible support down the years and here's to many more successful ones to come!
