- Former skipper Darren Purse impressed by Wednesday
- The ex-defender speaks ahead of the clash with Cardiff
- Purse made 71 appearances for the Owls
Former Wednesday and Cardiff captain Darren Purse has been impressed by the Owls’ start to the season.
The ex-Owls and Bluebirds defender spoke of his old clubs as the two sides go head to head in the Sky Bet Championship this weekend.
“Wednesday have made a very good start,” he said.
“I’ve spoken to a few people I know at the club and they say it’s a really nice place to play football and I think that is showing in their performances.
“They are playing for the manager and that’s all you can ever ask. They are giving 100 per cent, putting their bodies on the line and it’s paying dividends on the pitch.”
Purse, who made over 70 appearances for Wednesday between 2009 and 2011, added:
“It just shows if you’ve got harmony in a dressing room and everyone pulling in the right direction what you can achieve.
“You can go a long way in the Championship by being a hard-working, honest side that is very well organised.
“Clearly that’s what Sheffield Wednesday are because they are picking up results.
“They’ve had a great start but it’s a long old season.”
