Stevie May heads home following Scotland duty

9 September 2014

  • Scotland Under-21s beat Luxembourg 3-0
  • Owls striker Stevie May played full game
  • May now looks to senior Scotland squad

Stevie May signed off from Scotland Under-21 duty by helping his side to a 3-0 win over Luxembourg on Monday night.

The Euro 2015 qualifier took place at the Stade Municipal Oberkorn, Differdange.

Despite that comfortable win, though, Scotland failed to make the cut for the finals having finished in third place in Group 3 behind Holland and Slovakia.

May played the full 90 minutes against Luxembourg and posted his eighth international cap.

But the striker turns 22 in November so must now set his sights to the senior Scotland squad.

And May is hopeful his switch to Hillsborough over the summer will aid those ambitions.

He said: “Of course, anyone would say you’d rather be with the full national squad but there are a lot of top international strikers in the full squad.

“Playing at the highest level possible is a personal goal of mine.

“That’s why I made the move this summer to do that.

“If that comes with an international call-up down the line, then that’s great.”

May now heads home to begin preparation for the Owls’ Championship trip to Bolton on Saturday following the international break.
