Stevie May impresses but Scotland eliminated

6 September 2014

  • Owls striker played full 90 minutes for Scotland Under-21s
  • Late leveller from Slovakia leaves Scots heartbroken
  • 1-1 draw not enough for Euro 2015 qualification

Wednesday striker Stevie May impressed for the Scotland Under-21s against Slovakia but the Scots succumbed to a last-minute equaliser to seal their Euro 2015 fate.

That late blow in the qualifying clash in Senec means Scotland can no longer make the cut for the finals.

May, making his seventh appearance on the international stage, looked lively throughout and twice came close to scoring.

Ryan Fraser did put Scotland ahead only for Ondrej Duda to strike at the last.

Manager Billy Stark said: "The performance the players put in tonight deserved a victory.

"We countered intelligently and created good chances. There were lots of good individual displays but collectively they really showed they were a team.

"We'd trained to get Ryan Fraser and Stevie May through on them and that happened on numerous occasions."

Scotland’s final qualification match is against Luxembourg on Monday night in Differdange.
